Blog Tour Stop: Interview + Giveaway: Paradise City by C.J. Duggan

Hello Swooners!
I am so excited to have C.J. Duggan here today! She is the Author of The Summer Series, and is here today to answer some questions about her new book Paradise City! I can't wait to see what she has to say.

What inspired you to write Paradise City?
I really enjoy writing books about wallflowers and underdogs. Paradise City is heavily based on a journey of self-discovery and the fear of the unknown. I wanted to set it in a rich, vibrant city setting after having holidayed in LA and the Gold Coast; I just loved the vibe of these places. And although Paradise City is set in a mythical location in Australia my experiences from my travels drew heavily on the inspiration behind Lexie’s story.

Are there any characters that were difficult to write?
It was particularly difficult to get into a certain male character’s head because he was naturally guarded, so it took some prying to work him out; he is still quite elusive to me, which I kind of love.

Did you identify with any character specifically?
I think at the crux of it Lexie personifies those anxious, uncertain years of youth that I think we can all identify with in some way. I really like her wit and her strength, I would like to think I have something in common with her. She was a very cool character to write.

What was the best part about writing Paradise City?
Pushing the envelope on anything I had ever written before, creating a new world with new characters, gaining new readers and having a flow-on effect from the Paradise series to the Summer series and vice versa. Paradise City is a lot grittier, sexier than anything else I have created, and I had an absolute blast writing it.

Were there any scenes that you found particularly difficult to write?
There were a few curly scenarios that were difficult to write, whether it was just a bump in the story line I had to figure out, or something that affected the character directly. But the difficult scenes are so important and needed, so it’s a justified difficulty.

Why did you choose Red Hole and Paradise City as the setting of this story?
I like the idea of setting my stories in a mythical Australian setting, being able to allow the reader the freedom to imagine it as they would like it to be. I often get emails from people who tell me that they grew up in a place just like ‘Onslow’ and I think that’s great. I love that dusty, rural Red Hill (Red Hole) or Paradise City could be the next mythical place that people connect with on some personal level. As for the names, I needed to choose something to reflect the complete polar opposites of the worlds. Red Hill and all its dusty, remote nothing to Paradise City with its coastal, urban setting filled with tourists and chaos: it had to be the ultimate culture shock for poor Lexie, even though Paradise is not all it seems.

There are some really awkward moments in Paradise City, did you ever cringe while you were writing them?
Completely. I would quite often think, “Oh no, what now?” Writing Lexie’s story definitely kept me on my toes; I really never knew what might happen from one minute to the next and I loved that.

What is your favourite moment in Paradise City?
Anytime Lexie found her voice are always fond moments for me, and anything to do with banter – it’s all about the banter.

If you were on a deserted island and could choose one of your book characters to be there with you who would you choose to be stranded with?
Hmm, maybe Ballantine? He could teach me how to surf.

What do you want the readers to know before they start reading Paradise City?
Paradise City is quintessentially Australian, heavily focused on family, friendships, love and pushing the limits. A sexy, sassy and witty character novel with plenty of twists and turns. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did creating it.

When her parents decide a change will be good for her, seventeen-year-old Lexie Atkinson never expected they'd send her all the way to Paradise City. But when she's thrust into a public school without a friendly face in sight, and forced to share a room with her insipid, hateful cousin Amanda, Lexie's not so sure.

Hanging out with the self-proclaimed beach bums of the city, sneaking out, late night parties and parking with boys are all things Lexie's never experienced, but all that's about to change. It's new, terrifying . . . and exciting. But when she meets Luke Ballantine, exciting doesn't even come close to describing her new life. Trouble with a capital T, Luke is impulsive, charming and answers to no one. The resident bad-boy leader of the group, he's sexier than any boy Lexie has ever known.

Amidst the stolen moments of knowing looks and heated touches, Lexie can't help but wonder if Luke is going to be good for her . . . or very, very bad?

Blog Tour Stop: Review: Miss Mayhem by Rachel Hawkins

Miss Mayhem

Review by: Jenn
Life is almost back to normal for Harper Price. The Ephors have been silent after their deadly attack at Cotillion months ago, and best friend Bee has returned after a mysterious disappearance. Now Harper can return her focus to the important things in life: school, canoodling with David, her nemesis-turned-ward-slash-boyfie, and even competing in the Miss Pine Grove pageant.

Unfortunately, supernatural chores are never done. The Ephors have decided they’d rather train David than kill him. The catch: Harper has to come along for the ride, but she can’t stay David’s Paladin unless she undergoes an ancient trial that will either kill her . . . or connect her to David for life.
Rating: 4 stars out of 5 stars
*I received an ARC of this title from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. However it did not influence this review in any way.*

Miss Mayhem is another book that is filled with Rachel Hawkins known snark and witty female characters. I know that when I'm about to read a Rachel Hawkins book, I will be getting the snark, the sarcasm, and the usual badassery her characters brings. And boy did Harper bring some badassery. Harper continues her streak as take control of the situation in Miss Mayhem but unfortunately it ended up not working all that great for her.

Miss Mayhem deal with the events after Rebel Belle which means that Bee, Harper's best friend, is gone and her ex-boyfriend is her new boyfriend's, David, Mage causing for some weird situations. Soon after the start of Miss Mayhem beginning, Bee is returned but not without some unfortunate news for Harper. What happens afterwards, set the tone for the rest of the book.

Miss Mayhem developed a bit slow at time but when it picked up, I couldn't help but follow Harper and company along for the ride. I had a feeling the book was going to end the way it but I still hoped for a different ending. I need to know what happens next because OMG. I have questions, I have concerns. When will we know when the next book will be release. These are legit questions here.

Quotes (#104)

Morning Swooners,
Another Monday is here and I am just exhausted. Hopefully these quotes will serve as a pick me up this morning.

“You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world...but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choices.”
~ John Green, The Fault in Our Stars

“There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves, it is not my nature.”
~ Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey

“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! -- When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.”
~ Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

“You are, and always have been, my dream.”
 ~Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook

“Becoming fearless isn't the point. That's impossible. It's learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it.”
 ~Veronica Roth, Divergent

“I would always rather be happy than dignified.”
~Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre

“No relationship is perfect, ever. There are always some ways you have to bend, to compromise, to give something up in order to gain something greater...The love we have for each other is bigger than these small differences. And that's the key. It's like a big pie chart, and the love in a relationship has to be the biggest piece. Love can make up for a lot.”
~ Sarah Dessen, This Lullaby
Hope your week is great!

Review: Fall With Me by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Fall With Me
(Wait for You #4)
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Release Date: March 31, 2015
Publisher: Harper Collins (Avon)
Source: Personal Copy
Review by: Nahomi
Eleven months ago, bartender and weird-shirt-wearing extraordinaire Roxy and Officer Reece Anders had a one night stand. Well, kind of. She’s been in love with him since she was fifteen, and he wishes that night they shared never happened. She’s sworn him off forever, but the past and future collide, forcing her to rely on the one man who broke her heart not once, but twice.

Her best friend since birth has been in a long-term care facility since he became a victim of a hate crime years ago, and the person who put him in there is out of prison and wanting to make amends with him and Roxy. She’s not sure she has room for forgiveness in her and when she begins to receive frightening messages and is on the receiving end of escalating violence, she thinks she knows who is to blame. The man who already destroyed one life already.

But Reece isn’t convinced. The threats are too personal, and even if Roxy doesn’t believe him, he’s not willing to let anyone hurt her. Including himself. He’s already messed up more than once when it comes to Roxy and he’s not going to let history repeat itself.
5 stars out of 5 stars

Jennifer Armentrout does it again, I am totally obsessed with Fall With Me! OMG, I finished this book in a day, I just couldn't put it down. This book had all of the elements I love in a story: great plot, funny protagonist, hott sweet sexy and thoughtful guy, and suspense to top it all off.

Holy Canoli this is one of the creepiest books I have ever read. I was suspicious for the first part and the second half had my heart racing until the very end. I was all over the place, experiencing so many emotions from one moment to the next. I was fully immersed in this story.

I love how well the characters are written. Roxy is funny, brave, and artistic. She doesn't take any crap from anyone and I admire that quality in a character. Reece is *fans self* is currently knocking down some of my books boyfriends. He is a former Marine turned cop with a chiseled body, but that's not all. Oh no he is also very thoughtful, sweet, funny and a little rough around the edges. I mean if there is a perfect guy out there for me I definitely think Reece is it.

Together Roxy and Reece have this amazing chemistry. What I like about them together is that they were friends first and although their history is a little rough, it makes the chemistry between these two so much better. You will need a tank of ice water to cool you off after reading the sexy scenes. Jeez they were soo HOT!

Not only was getting to know Roxy and Reece great, but I got to catch up with the characters from the previous three books and I was so giddy to see what was going on in their lives again that it was an added bonus. Fall With Me is by far one of my favorite books in this series!

Lynn, this final chapter in the fun and steamy New Adult trilogy by Noelle August (authors Veronica Rossi and Lorin Oberweger) features two aspiring musicians who must choose between their careers…and their sizzling attraction for each other.

Persuaded by her best friend Beth to accompany her on an audition for the first feature film launched by Blackwood Entertainment, she figures why not? Beth’s a shoe-in for the lead, but maybe Skyler’s newly dyed pink hair will help her stand out enough to score a small speaking part.
Never in her wildest dreams does Skyler imagine she’ll land the lead role or that she’ll have her shoes knocked off her feet by the kiss her audition partner, Grey Blackwood, plants on her—a kiss that feels very real and not at all “acted.”
After throwing a party that causes thousands of dollars of damage to his older brother’s home, reckless musician Grey Blackwood gets roped into working off his debt on the set of his CEO brother’s newest project. Grey spends his days fetching coffee and doing odd jobs around the studio, but he lives for nights when he performs with his band. He knows if he can stay focused, success as a singer is just around the corner. But that’s tough with a distracting pink-haired girl occupying his every waking thought.
Skyler and Grey have every reason to resist each other. But, like a song neither of them can get out of their minds, they have no choice but to go where the music takes them.

*I received an eARC of this title from the publisher for this blog tour. However, it did not influence this review in any way.*

I'm not sure how Suzanne Young does this but she managed to create another story that absolutely tore at my emotions. Every time I finish one of her stories, I always end up crying, conflicted, and in an absolute daze. I can't help but continue thinking about the story long after I finish it. The same happened with The Remedy.

The Remedy follows Quinlan McKee as a closer. What it means is that she provides closure to grieving families playing the role of the deceased. The Remedy is the prequel to Suzanne's The Program which is also one of my favorite books.  So knowing what The Program is about, I was very curious to see how this story would play out. I wanted to know how we get to The Program. And like always, Suzanne did not disappoint.

From the first page until the last, I was hooked. If I wasn't reading, I was thinking about when I would get the chance to read. When I was reading, I couldn't help but think about what was going to happen next. Basically, I couldn't help but think about this book nonstop because it was so good and you couldn't be anything but sucked into the story. There were so many times I felt like I was in Quinlan's shoes so I felt her confusion and her need to connect with someone to feel tethered to this world. I do admit that there were some instances that I didn't agree with her actions, specifically when she starting blurring the lines of reality with her job as a closer. Of course, that would be because I know my own reality and that is something Quinn doesn't have the luxury of knowing. I loved how everything came to fruition and even knowing that it would end up in heartbreak for Quinn.

There were so many twists and turns and unanswered questions that weren't addressed and I'm extremely excited that we're getting another book in this series. I can only imagine what is going to happen next. I mean, I know what happens "next" because of The Program, but I'm curious to see how we get there. I'll admit that even though I know the story of The Program and The Treatment, I can't help but hope for a happy ending for Quinn.

If you loved The Program and The Treatment, you won't want to miss out on this story. It has new characters but you'll get attached to them and the story. And if you haven't read this series? What are you waiting for? Get on it. You'll love it, I promise.

Teaser + Giveaway: Blushing by Katie Delahanty

My name is Olivia Bloom and I. Am. Engaged.

When Berkeley proposed I thought we’d live happily ever after—we’d plan our wedding and he’d tour with the Brightside while I continued designing lingerie. But instead he dropped a bombshell that turned my life upside down: he’s set to star in a movie with, who else, his gorgeous ex, Christina Carlton. And what’s more? I’ve been erased from the public eye. All anyone can talk about is #Berkstina.

Berkeley wants me to work on set as a costume designer—a dream come true—but there’s a catch; we have to keep our relationship secret. I’m okay with not being photographed, but the sneaking around, the lies, the love scenes; it’s not how I imagined our engagement. I know Berkeley is passionate and driven, but he has so much going on—I don’t know if we can take it. I’m starting to wonder how well I know him.

I love him, but am I ready to drop everything and decide the rest of my life? To become Olivia Dalton?
