The Selection changed America Singer's life in ways she never could have imagined. Since she entered the competition to become the next princess of IllĂ©a, America has struggled with her feelings for her first love, Aspen—and her growing attraction to Prince Maxon. Now she's made her choice . . . and she's prepared to fight for the future she wants.

3.5 stars out of 5 stars

After being disappointed by The Elite, I was hoping for a better outcome for The One. In a way it was better than its predecessor but not by much. I found the story to be too predictable, and America to be very self-centered. Like always she only thought of herself when it came to her situation with Aspen, never thinking that he might have moved on or have another love interest.

The pacing of the book was quick and the story transitions well from one moment to the next. There are sections that are filled with suspense but in the end I knew America would end up with Maxon. Don't get me wrong that is what I wanted, but there was so much unnecessary drama between them before they finally decided to be together, which was a turn off for me.

Although the outside revolution played a bigger role in The One, it was just kind of back ground noise to the drama of what was happening in the selection. I would have liked for it to play a bigger role. There were certain reveals that were supposed to be shocking but really kind of fell short.

I really liked that Celeste and America became friends after all of the drama between them, that was a plus for me in this story. Really all of the girls rallied together in the end and that was refreshing to see. Overall I felt the book was a quick read but had too much drama in the love department for me.
